Social problems are unfortunately here to stay, and the social sector is increasingly in need of staff, with many workers retiring and new issues requiring innovative solutions and fresh ideas. This is why it's worthwhile to begin studies in this sector with its many needs. Here are some avenues to explore in social work.

Social support

The field of social support is increasingly important and demand is very high, especially since many positions have become available in recent years. Life expectancy is now much longer. Periods of unemployment are also increasingly stretched and unpredictable. People in difficulty, as well as the elderly and people with disabilities, will need to call on specialized support workers.

Many jobs are related to social support, whether in social work, activities, special education, or educational work. Social care businesses and organizations are, of course, largely dependent on government funding, but they are well established, and everything indicates that they will be able to find the necessary funding to fulfill their important missions in the coming years.

Establishments for good training

According to the L'Étudiant website, a thousand public and private institutions offer preparatory training for a diploma in social work. Programs lasting from one to three years are provided. To enter these institutions, you generally need to pass an entrance exam. Many universities also offer master's degrees related to this field.

It's not easy to qualify for these courses, and it's recommended that you gain practical experience to ensure you succeed in your studies. One or two years of university preparatory work also improves your chances of doing well.

You can also choose to pursue a DUT in social careers. This diploma is completed two years after the baccalaureate. In the first year, you must choose the career you wish to pursue in the field, either the specialized educator option, the social work assistant option, or the early childhood educator option. There is also an option for working as a youth worker.

Once the DUT diploma is obtained, it remains to obtain the State diploma, which is obtained after another year. The State diploma is necessary to practice.

The major families of social professions

The Onisep publisher's guide to social work professions, published in its Parcours collection, lists five main job families in this sector.

First, special education professionals support a wide variety of audiences. Social work professionals, for their part, are responsible for helping vulnerable people. Home help professionals are in high demand in this era of an aging population. As for professional integration professionals, their importance is no longer in doubt in a society where problems related to employment and workplace integration are increasingly acute.
